PORTLAND, Tenn. (WKRN) — Now that it's spooky season, one Portland homeowner is using her annual Halloween display to benefit children and families going through significant medical difficulties.

Melissa Hesson turns her yard into a spooky Halloween scene every year to bring joy to her grandson and the neighborhood. This year, she told News 2 she wanted to use the decorations to bring peace as well through the mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"We are participating in the Skeletons for St. Jude," she said. "We partner with what's called 'Skeletons for Hope.'"

Skeletons for Hope is a nationwide effort to raise $1 million for the hospital. The fundraiser originated in 2020 from North Carolina homeowner Jeff Robertson. He placed a sign in his yard about the mission of St. J
