Word went out Wednesday that the local theater scene lost a venue, with the shuttering of Studio Theatre. The group had been staging shows in Central Arkansas since 2014.
Studio Theatre’s venue on Seventh Street has been quiet since December, partly because of fundraising challenges, spokesperson Billie Overstreet said. “It’s hard to ask people to give to something when the economy is what it was,” she said.
But who knows what the future holds? A press release signed by the theater’s board of directors left open the possibility of a future rebirth. “While this is the final curtain for now, it may not be the end of the story. If and when the time is right, we are open to what may come next, we’ll be here, ready,” they wrote.
