HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — Flooding and erosion have been long-time problems along Stillwater Creek, which winds through several eastern Ohio counties, including Harrison, Belmont, and Tuscarawas County.
Stillwater Creek runs quietly through parts of Harrison County, but when debris builds up, it can cause big problems. On Wednesday, county leaders heard from a group that's been clearing logjams to keep the water moving and protect nearby communities from flooding.
Stillwater Watershed Partners recently completed what they call the Milarcik Logjam Project — removing decades-old railroad piles and debris that had been clogging a section of the creek and causing repeated flooding and erosion.
The project was funded through a $321,000 grant from the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist
