FORDHAM, The Bronx (PIX11) — Twelve people are hospitalized following a fire in the Bronx that displaced at least two families, according to officials.

According to the FDNY, the dozen people hospitalized include children and adults.

Citizen app video showed a man carrying a child while standing on top of scaffolding, and two men smashing the glass of an apartment window in a desperate attempt to help as heavy smoke poured from a building near Ryer Avenue and East 181st Street.

Deputy Chief Andrew Holzmaier said the fire broke out around 4:00 Wednesday on the third floor of the building, where firefighters faced challenges inside.

“There was a clutter condition within the apartment which made the searches a little difficult but overall, we were able to overcome them,” he said.
