Recovery is real. No one is too far gone.
Those points were reiterated multiple times on Sept. 30 on the Smyth County Courthouse steps as about 40 people gathered for a Recovery Day candlelight vigil.
Hosted by the Smyth County Recovery Court, the vigil featured multiple speakers testifying to the power of life in recovery from substance use.
Jennie “Jennie B” Bostic, a peer recovery specialist, declared, “Every story matters.”
Such gatherings, she said, are important reminders of the power of people coming together. Attending the vigil, she acknowledged the presence of those in recovery, their family members, community leaders, supporters, and representatives of U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and the Virginia Attorney General’s office.
