NEW HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — The parents of the 10-year-old girl killed in a boat crash on Harris Lake during the summer took legal action against the boat's occupants Wednesday.

The wrongful death lawsuit was filed in Wake County Superior Court by Kimberly Cannon and Matthew Carroll, the parents of Brooklyn Mae Carroll.

Brooklyn, a fifth grader at West Lake Elementary School in Apex, died on Aug. 2 after she was struck by a boat while swimming with her friend and her friend's parents. Her friend's mother, Jennifer Stehle of Apex, was also hit by the boat, leading to her leg being amputated.

The driver of the boat, 40-year-old Quinten Gregory Kight of Vass, had a blood alcohol level of 0.17 more than five hours after the incident. He was arrested the day of the crash and charged with second-
