ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) -- Hunters across Virginia are helping to provide a bridge out of hunger for those in need. They are doing it through the organization Hunters for the Hungry.

"Since our program began in 1991, we have processed over 8.1 million pounds of venison," said Hunters for the Hungry Director Gary Arrington. "That's over 32.7 million quarter pound servings going to men, women, children, the elderly, the homeless, and our veterans who are struggling with hunger."

Hunters for the Hungry takes donations in the form of dollars or deer. Hunters donate deer harvested during hunting season by taking them to meat processors who work with the program. There is a list of processors on the group's website.
