WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Former FBI Director James Comey pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to federal charges of lying to Congress.
Comey was arraigned at a courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia after the Justice Department brought charges brought against him last month.
The indictment stemmed from his 2020 congressional testimony about the bureau’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race and potential ties to President Trump’s campaign.
The charges came out shortly President Trump demanded that charges be brought against Comey.
Comey’s lawyers said they plan to file two motions to dismiss the case, claiming that Comey is being vindictively prosecuted by President Trump.
The judge set a trial date for this case to Jan. 5.
