ATLANTIC CITY — Authorities used drones to rescue a man stranded on a WaveRunner in a marsh near Atlantic City High School on Sunday, city spokesperson Matt Duffy said.
First responders received a distress call and used location technology to try to find the man, but they were unsuccessful due to the challenging terrain, Duffy said.
Chris Miller, a police sergeant and drone pilot for the department and the city's Office of Emergency Management, launched two drones, one from the police compound and another from the high school parking lot, and spotted the man 1.4 miles behind the high school, Duffy said Thursday in a news release.
“He was really out there in the marsh,” Miller said. “When I first observed him, he was just a speck on the screen. He clearly was in trouble.”
