SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Expect increasing clouds today as a storm system gradually pushes moisture into the area.

We’re waking up to a cooler morning with mist in parts of the foothills. The region is headed for a slightly cooler day, with valley highs in the mid-70s. Foothill highs will be in the low 70s, and Sierra highs will climb into the low to mid-60s.

Weather will turn unsettled over higher terrain surrounding the northern valley, with a few showers forecast for the Coast Range. The chance of rain increases Friday, with some showers spreading east into the foothills and the Sierra into Saturday morning. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for the Sierra Friday afternoon and evening, with gusts up to 35 mph producing waves 2 to 3 feet high. The valley may see a few sprinkles as well.
