CHICAGO — The National Guard has arrived outside a ICE facility in suburban Broadview.

About 45 Texas National Guard troops arrived in Broadview late Wednesday to begin patrols outside the ICE facility, village spokesman David Ormsby said in a statement. The deployment — forced by President Donald Trump’s administration against the objections of Gov. JB Pritzker and local leaders — has been highly controversial.

The Broadview facility has been the site of fervent protests against recent immigration enforcement operations, with federal agents firing chemical weapons and other non-lethal rounds to push back crowds of organizers.
