A Dothan man was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with impersonating a police officer, Dothan Police Chief William E. Benny said.

Michael Darvous Pickett, 23, was arrested after DPD officers responded to a call from the 200 block of Fifth Avenue about a man who had come to a residence, identifying himself as a Dothan police officer, authorities said.

Benny said that when the person at the residence asked the man to verify his identity, he declined and eventually left. "The citizen, concerned about the interaction, called the DPD," Benny said.

Responding officers located Pickett, who admitted to saying he was a DPD officer.

Pickett was arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer. He was taken to the Houston County Jail in Dothan.
