Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree has said he has not abandoned controversial powers in the original strong borders bill giving law enforcement the right to obtain information without a warrant, but wants to refine them to avoid accusations of overreach.

Speaking to reporters after an appearance at the Commons public safety committee, the minister said he agreed that provisions in Bill C-2, the original strong borders bill, which would have allowed the police and CSIS to ask if someone had used a doctor without a warrant, were “overreach.”
