Senator Jim Banks introduced the Gas Can Freedom Act earlier this week.
The bill is aimed at eliminating federal regulations he says have overcomplicated a basic household tool.
The bill would repeal Obama-era rules on gas can design, nullify existing Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations, and block future requirements for flame mitigation devices or complex spouts.
Banks says the measure will restore consumer choice, lower costs and keep Washington “out of the garage.”
Banks says it’s time to “bring back common sense gas cans” and end what he calls needless overregulation of everyday life.
