BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Emergency doctors at Children’s of Alabama are seeing a rise in children visiting the ER with injuries relating to car crashes.
Since 2019, 10,000 children in Alabama have been treated in emergency rooms after car crashes. Within the last few months, doctors at Children’s of Alabama say they’re seeing more kids with injuries specifically because they weren’t buckled up.
“A seat belt is going to save your child’s life,” said Dr. Elizabeth Hendrickson, a pediatric emergency medicine fellow at Children’s of Alabama.
Dr. Hendrickson said if you get into a car accident with your child not buckled, the child will move at the same rate the car was traveling before it was hit.
“So if there’s not a seatbelt to restrain them, they’ll get ejected from the vehicle. So
