High tides cause flooding and damage along Homer Spit during King Tide

Part of the reason for the damage is that this week started under a full moon, which often brings higher tides—sometimes called “King Tides.”

According to Tim, Wednesday’s high tide reached nearly 23 feet, contributing to the flooding and damage seen in these images.
