Governor Mike Dunleavy has issued a disaster declaration following the October 8 storm that hit Alaska’s west coast.

The remnants of a tropical typhoon caused above-high-tide surges, flooding multiple communities, with the Northwest Arctic Borough reporting the most significant damage to homes and critical infrastructure.

So far, there are no reported injuries. State emergency teams are working with local officials to assess damage and coordinate assistance. The declaration activates state Public and Individual Assistance programs for communities in the Northwest Arctic, North Slope, Kashunamiut, Lower Yukon, and Bering Strait regions.

State supervisors and members of the Alaska National Guard and State Defense Force are being deployed to support response efforts.
