Miami Heat two-time NBA champion head coach Erik Spoelstra is expected to be named the next head coach for the USA men’s basketball national team, according to a report by ESPN’s Shams Charania .

Spoelstra, 54, will succeed Steve Kerr as Team USA’s head coach for the 2027 World Cup and 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. He previously served as a lead assistant for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics, when the U.S. won the gold medal.

2028 will mark the fourth consecutive Olympics that Team USA has had a different head coach. Former San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich coached the U.S. in 2021, with Kerr serving as a lead assistant, and legendary Duke Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski coached Team USA in 2016.
