WEST UNION, Iowa (KCRG) - Farmer Loran Steinlage has weathered a lot of storms on his fields. He said he’s excited about a new market for Iowa soybeans.

“Anytime as a farmer we can start helping figure out what more products we can do with the grain we’re producing,” Steinlage said. “That’s music to our ears and on the investment side, we invest in companies just like that.”

The new product on the market? It’s called soy foam developed by Cross Plains Solutions.

The company has partnered with Iowa ag leaders to bring it to Iowa.

The Iowa Soybean Association said the new product turns soybeans into foam used to fight fires without forever chemicals. The West Union Fire Department said it’s open to the idea.
