ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — St. Petersburg city leaders will take some more time to consider two new alternate flags: one representing the LGBTQ+ community and another honoring black history.
The new flags, proposed by Council member Gina Driscoll at Thursday's regular council meeting, incorporate the city's existing logo while working to preserve St. Pete's culture of inclusivity.
“I think every single person can see themselves in this flag. That's what art does to you, so it's not about replacing our official city flag. It's about having variation on that flag,” Driscoll said.
The move comes after Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered cities to remove any art or street murals from all public roads.
