ASHBURN, Va. — Patience. It’s what Washington Commanders rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt had to possess in order to make it to the NFL in the first place, and in his team’s Week 5 win against the Los Angeles Chargers, he leveraged it to create multiple explosive plays for his offense.

On a 27-yard gain in the third quarter, the Commanders’ back took a handoff to the left side and was met early by a Chargers defender. In a situation where many would dive forward looking to get as many yards as he could, Croskey-Merritt stayed patient, focused on his balance, and found space to the right side of the field for his biggest run of the day.
