Several of the weather warnings that were issued along Spain's southeastern coast earlier this week have been upgraded as Storm Alice wreaks havoc on three regions with heavy rains and flash floods.

On Wednesday, much of the Costa Blanca - which includes popular destinations such as Alicante, Benidorm and Valencia - were placed under yellow alerts.

On Friday, Spain's weather agency, Aemet , upgraded this to a rare red alert for heavy rain for all of Alicante and parts of Murcia.

Valencia has been upgraded to amber, with up to 140 mm of rainfall expected over the next 12 hours.

Forecasters have warned that "local flash flooding" could occur in red warning areas.
