BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- New digital signs throughout the city will soon be used to promote safety, improve traffic, and keep residents aware of changing conditions, Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon announced Friday.

The U.S. Department of Transportation funded the Smart Curb project with a SMART Grant. Examples of signs that may be included in Smart Curb include storm warning signs, road closures, and parking notices.

The signs will be placed in the Medical Corridor, Chippewa, and Canalside and will work in real time.

"This project goes beyond technology -- it's about giving residents and visitors the information they need, when they need it, while making city operations more efficient and Buffalo safer for all," said Buffalo Parking Commissioner Ray Wagner.
