DOUGLAS, Ariz. (KVOA) - The City of Douglas is advancing its collaboration with Sonora officials on a new commercial port of entry.

Mayor José Grijalva and Douglas representatives met in Hermosillo, Sonora, with officials from the Government of Sonora, the Municipality of Agua Prieta, and the Consulate of Mexico in Douglas. The goal is to progress planning for the Douglas/Agua Prieta Commercial Land Port of Entry.

The meeting focused on securing a revised diplomatic note and acquiring additional property for the project.

"This port of entry is intended to be a model project for Sonora," said officials.

The new port aims to reduce congestion and improve the flow of goods, positioning Douglas and Agua Prieta as an economic corridor within the Sonora–Arizona Megaregion.
