A Rutland man allegedly drove through a Pine Street backyard trying to get away from police.

David A. Sparks, 39, pleaded not guilty Friday in Rutland County criminal court to felony charges of reckless driving while eluding police and impeding a public officer, as well as misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and driving without a license. The charges carry a potential combined maximum of 12 years in prison. Sparks was held for lack of $5,000 bail.
