DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Northlanders have the chance to run into a Sasquatch thanks to the Normanna Volunteer Fire Department’s annual “Squatch 5k”.

It’s part of an annual fundraiser that’s hosted by the fire department.

Along with the 5k, there’s a “Baby Squatch 1k” for children, craft vendors, and breakfast.

Corey Hulst, Chief of Normanna Fire, said that his favorite part is getting to bring the community together for a good cause.

“Fire departments are always underfunded,” the Chief said. “They’re funded on the tax base. In our specific township, we have 290 households, and we have 36 square miles to maintain. So that’s not a lot of households to spread the tax load over, so we’re always looking for extra fundraising opportunities.”
