TULARE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A 23-year-old will be spending the rest of his life in prison after luring a Tulare man to his death.

On Friday, the Tulare County Superior Court sentenced 23-year-old James Myron Mitchell, of Tipton, to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 25 years-to-life for the first-degree murder of John White III.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on July 13, 2023, Mitchell was outside White's home when he messaged him to come outside. After walking out, the DA says Mitchell shot White with a rifle from 90 feet away.

By the time officers arrived, White was dead, and Mitchell was nowhere to be found.
