Cynthia Cardona, president and CEO of Vulcan Park and Museum, said the journey to secure this marker began in 1976 when the Alabama Historical Commission approved the paperwork to include the statue in the National Register of Historic Places.
However, the efforts to install the marker only began about a year ago when the museum applied for a grant to facilitate its installation.
For the local community, "it's going to give them a tremendous amount of pride because the site is so unique and now they can come here and see why,"
