A federal judge today permanently barred the Department of Defense from drastically cutting reimbursements to MIT and other universities to support work by professors who have won research grants.
US District Court Judge Brian Murphy had earlier banned Secretary of Hair Gel Pete Hegseth from cutting payments for these "indirect costs" while MIT and other research universities pursued the lawsuit they had filed in June. But in a ruling today, the Boston judge said he'd seen enough and that the universities had made a strong enough legal case that there was no reason to go any further and he was issuing summary judgment for them.
Murphy's afternoon ruling came after MIT President Sally Kornbluth wrote the Secretary of Education in the morning to say the school wanted no part of her regime-
