RED SPRINGS — Another close loss haunted the Red Springs football team Friday as the Red Devils dropped a 14-13 decision at home against South Columbus.
South Columbus (4-3, 2-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference) led 14-0 at the start of the fourth quarter before a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes for Red Springs (2-5, 0-2), as Chase Boone connected first with Elijah Lowery then with T.J. Ellerbe.
The Ellerbe touchdown was set up by fumble recovery by Red Springs; the Red Devils picked up another fumble on the next Stallions drive, giving them a chance for a go-ahead score. Red Springs, though, saw the clock expire with the ball around its own 40-yard line.
