Genius alert: Two names on the list of this year's 22 MacArthur Foundation fellows may look familiar to some Santa Feans: Jeremy Frey and Tommy Orange.

Frey (Passamaquoddy Indian Township Reservation), based in Eddington, Maine, is an artist and seventh-generation Indigenous basketmaker who in 2011 won best of show at the Santa Fe Indian Market. Orange (Cheyenne and Arapaho), based in Oakland, Calif., is a fiction writer who in 2016 received a Master of Fine Arts from the Institute of American Indian Arts.

Both will receive an $800,000 no-strings-attached award from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, colloquially known as the "genius grant."
