DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) - A new report is detailing the extent of deadly domestic violence incidents in Iowa, causing anti-violence advocates to voice their concerns, KCCI reports .

The Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence used data from the Uniform Crime Reporting Program to break down fatality numbers on a year-by-year basis. The research showed a significant increase in deaths, jumping from 22 in 2022 to 30 in 2023 and reaching 35 in 2024.

But Community Engagement Director Lindsay Pingel said those numbers don’t even paint the full picture.

“Many crimes, particularly those involving women, children, and vulnerable populations, often go unreported, and trauma can often affect information survivors provide after an incident has happened,” Pingel said.
