Police have been given extra stop and search powers in Stratford town centre. Warwickshire Police has said that the temporary Section 60 order comes into force tonight (October 11) to coincide with Stratford's historic Mop.

It means that officers can stop search anyone we believe might be carrying any offensive weapon. Officers can also order anyone who is wearing a face covering to remove them.

They also have also been given powers, under a Section 35 order, for the next 48 hours. This allows officers to direct anyone they suspect to be involved in anti-social behaviour to leave the area or be arrested.

In a statement, Stratford Inspector Jake Kibblewhite said: "The Mop is a great chance for our communities to come together and have a great time.
