LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Postpartum depression rates more than doubled from 2010 to 2021. One in five women will experience a maternal mental health disorder like depression or anxiety, and 20% of maternal deaths are attributed to suicide. The nonprofit Postpartum Support International is working to support mothers and families, and their Nebraska chapter held an awareness walk called The Climb here at Wayne Park in Waverly.

“This event is about connection, awareness, and hope,” said Meghan Luebbert, board of directors for PSI Nebraska. “Each step we take today represents the light that shines through the darkness of perinatal mental health struggles.”
