LINCOLN, Neb. — A unified powwow took place at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Union on Monday to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, providing Native communities a space to reclaim their narrative and celebrate their cultural heritage on the same day traditionally observed as Columbus Day.

The event, organized by UNITE UNL, served as both a celebration of Indigenous culture and a showcase of differences between various tribes. Powwows traditionally bring communities together to share customs, dances and stories that have been passed down through generations.
