Hundreds of volunteers and politicians gathered in Etobicoke Saturday for the Daily Bread’s Thanksgiving drive public food sort, as food bank visits in Toronto continue to reach record-highs.
Daily Bread Food Bank’s Thanksgiving drive, which runs until the end of the month, aims to raise $4.4 million and 225,000 lbs of food.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said this Thanksgiving, it’s important to consider how the city can build more affordable housing, raise wages and provide community support.
“We shouldn't have to go to a food bank,” she said. “This is the season that we are harvesting so much. Toronto can be so rich. We are so blessed. Let us share a bit of what we have,” she said.
