Indiana conservation officers are reminding deer hunters to prioritize safety as archery deer season is underway.

More than 300,000 hunters are expected to participate in the season, which runs through January 31. Officers emphasized that most injuries occur in tree stands.

They advised hunters to check their equipment for wear and tear and to inform someone at home of their whereabouts.

Another important piece of advice from officers is to always be aware of your target and what is beyond it.
