A San Antonio, Texas-based fast-food chain apparently is making its first foray into Santa Fe, as officials at Whataburger have been granted a building permit for a restaurant on Cerrillos Road.

The permit, which was issued Sept. 24, calls for the construction of a nearly 3,400-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru lane at 3570 Cerrillos Road.

Whataburger officials did not respond to an email request from The New Mexican for more information about the project.

The company, which operates more than 1,100 locations across 17 states, already has several restaurants in New Mexico, including in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Las Cruces, Farmington and Taos.
