A pair of touchdown passes from Pat McQuaide to Luke Colella in the third quarter helped Villanova rally from a halftime deficit and down Elon, 29-21, Saturday.

The win is the third straight for the Wildcats (4-2, 3-1 CAA). Villanova outscored the Phoenix, 26-7, in the second half.

Elon (4-3, 2-1) didn’t go quietly. The two Colella touchdowns and a 26-yard field goal by Jack Barnum made it 17 straight points for Villanova to overturn a 14-3 deficit. But TJ Thomas Jr.’s 2-yard score put the Phoenix ahead, 21-20, with 5:25 to play.

The Wildcats’ response was immediate, Ja’Briel Mace returning the kickoff 97 yards for a score. The two-point attempts failed, giving Villanova a 26-21 lead.
