PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — A Virginia State Police trooper has serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Pittsylvania County Saturday afternoon.

It happened at 2:04 p.m. Saturday on the southbound side of U.S. Highway 29 in Pittsylvania County. Two troopers were assisting a disabled tractor-trailer and had parked their patrol vehicles with their emergency lights activated and partially in the right travel lane to protect the disabled tractor-trailer.

The troopers were outside of their vehicles when the rear patrol vehicle was struck by a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The police cruiser then struck one of the troopers as well as the second patrol vehicle.
