We reported this week Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham scolded Democrats and Republicans alike in her executive message on Senate Bill 3, a measure passed during the special legislative session at the beginning of October to give the state control over vaccination requirements for schoolchildren.
The measure failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority in the state House of Representatives for a so-called emergency clause, which drew stinging criticism from the governor.
An emergency clause makes a law effective immediately upon the governor’s signature.
The bill, which the governor signed into law Wednesday, will now go into effect Dec. 31.
In her executive message, Lujan Grisham noted her administration had a Plan B, which gave House Republicans ammunition to strike back.
