Mark Scheifele is filling a leadership vacuum with captain Adam Lowry on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.
He’s also contributing on the ice, scoring twice, including the game-winner just past the midway point of the third period as the Jets beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Canada Life Centre.
Including his three assists in the 5-4 loss to the Dallas Stars in the season opener on Thursday, the club’s top centre has produced five points through his first two games.
Scheifele scored late in the second period on Saturday, a pass intended for Morgan Barron deflecting off Mikey Anderson and between the legs of Los Angeles keeper Darcy Kuemper at 18:57, sending the game to the third tied at 2-2.
