Making a change at quarterback was not nearly enough to lift the Nevada football team out of its doldrums.

San Diego State got out to a big lead at halftime, then held on for a 44-10 win over Nevada on Saturday night in front of 19,473 fans at Mackay Stadium.

Nevada dropped to 1-5 overall, 0-2 in the Mountain West. San Diego State improved to 5-1, 2-0 MW. It was Nevada's 13th straight conference loss.

Carter Jones started at QB for the Wolf Pack , making him the eighth true freshman to start an FBS game this season. But it didn't provide the spark Nevada coach Jeff Choate might have been hoping for.

Choate said he knew it would be a tough task for Jones to play against a solid defense.
