KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- She was enjoying her retirement, but the phone rang, and former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes could not resist the chance to answer the call.

Sworn in last week as the “temporary” Jackson County executive, the former Jackson County legislator and mayor finds herself back at the courthouse.

In her first one-on-one interview since being sworn in, Barnes shares what she hopes her role is, and reflects on her legacy as mayor. Part of that legacy is a revived downtown Kansas City. One memory, the unwitting role a St. Louis based Enterprise Car Rental played in part of downtown’s arrival, T-Mobile Center.
