EAST CHICAGO — The voices of hundreds of protesters could be heard throughout Indianapolis Boulevard as they chanted, "Fuera la migra," a Spanish colloquial phrase that means "Immigration officials, get out."

A crowd of at least 200 people lined the sidewalk outside East Chicago City Hall Saturday afternoon and peacefully rallied in response to recent local activity by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. They passionately chanted as passing cars honked to show their support.

The protest was organized by 18-year-old Purdue University Northwest student Rafael Manzo Jr., who founded the nonprofit More Action for Students to provide a space for young people to join the political conversation.
