South Mississippi (WLOX) - La Niña has returned and is expected to remain active this winter. The Climate Prediction Center issued a La Niña Advisory on Thursday October 9, 2025.
What does this mean for the US?
During La Niña, typically the Gulf Coast will see a drier and warmer than average winter. La Niña conditions result in a more active Polar Jet at the upper parts of the atmosphere. This can lead to more arctic blasts moving into the central US from Canada and can help maintain more frequent high pressure ridges across the southern US.
