Two young women were hospitalized Friday night after the car they were riding in collided with a train.

New Castle County Paramedics, EMS personnel from the Townsend Fire Company and American Legion Ambulance were dispatched to the 300 block of Blackbird Station Road, along with State Police, around 10:15 p.m.

When the rescuers arrived, they found a 24-year-old woman with chest and neck injuries--she was treated at the scene and airlifted to Christiana Hospital in serious condition.

A 22-year-old woman with a leg injury was treated at the scene and taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
