(WHTM) — Penn State announced that Associate Head Football Coach Terry Smith will serve as the Nittany Lions' interim head football coach after James Franklin was fired on Sunday.
Penn State's Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Patrick Kraft, announced that Smith will fill Franklin's shoes for the remainder of the season while he searches for Penn State's next head coach.
Franklin, who earned a 104-45 record in his 11-plus-year career with Penn State, was fired from the head coaching job after the Nittany Lions lost 42-37 in double overtime to Oregon in their White Out game, followed by losses to the winless UCLA Bruins in the Rose Bowl and the unranked Northwestern Wildcats at home.
