The city of Morganton celebrated its locally owned and operated utility during Public Power Week — Oct. 5-11 — an annual opportunity to shine a light on the value customers receive from their municipally-owned electric systems, known as public power.

Morganton is one of 2,000 public power communities within Electricities (of North Carolina) that provide reliability, local control and a focus on people, not profit. ElectriCities is a membership organization that provides services and support to public power communities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

During Public Power Week, one of the ways the city celebrated was to hold a random drawing to choose several customers to receive power bill credits.

18 residential customers received a $100 credit.
