A group of Venezuelans in Colombia gathered late Saturday for a prayer and to demand the release of political prisoners in their homeland.

Among those raising their voice against what they say is inhumane treatment of Venezuelan political prisoners were relatives of those jailed.

Protesters held photos of political prisoners and lit candles as they chanted "freedom."

They also called for respect for human rights for political prisoners and for the persecution to end.

"We’re already tired. Many families have suffered," said Mauricio Baquero, leader of the political party Vente Venezuela in Colombia. "We also have relatives of political prisoners here who are joining us, and we are raising our voices as Venezuelans to put an end to this barbarity.”

The group also celebrated the Nobel Peace Prize recognition of María Corina Machado, who has long been the face of resistance to Venezuela's 26-year ruling party.

On Friday, she was awarded the prize for her work “to achieve a just and peaceful transition” of power in the South American country.

The award also recognized the seasoned politician for being a “unifying figure” in the fractured opposition.

"For Venezuela, it’s a prize being given at exactly the right moment. It’s an prize that fills us with joy. It’s not an prize meant only for one person, it’s also for the struggle of all Venezuelans," said Baquero during Saturday's gathering.
